The Golden Vendetta delivers a read perfect for fans of Rick Riordan and Peter Lerangis, and a story that will leave readers clamoring for the next adventure and eager to enter a sweepstakes to participate in a real-life scavenger hunt hosted by Tony Abbott. This book was incredibly repetitive, The first book in this series was amazing, I could not put it down. I'll read the next one but I hope it's not as jumpy. Very nice chapter illustrations by Bill Perkins. He attended the workshops of Patricia Reilly Giff to further develop his writing after college. This is definitely a must read!!!! Equal parts edge-of-your-seat suspense and heartfelt coming-of-age. I find myself left with unanswered questions about the adventures casually referenced but not actually included in the books.
Readers are in for a real treat. The problem solving remains highly contrived, with huge and unexplained leaps of faith. Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research. A few times Becca mentions a sister who recovered from a grave illness. I read this in 3 days because I was so eager to know what happens next. Three characters die right in front of the kids, from poisoning, a gunshot wound, and a stab wound.

Tony Abbott has a knack for knowing just how much fantasy will be tolerated. Explain how characters in a story respond to challenges. The stars seem to align when Wade's cousin Lily and her friend Becca come to stay unexpectedly -- Lily's mom got the flu and canceled their trip to Paris. It was simultaneously incredible story-telling and heart-breakingly difficult to read.

Galina drugs her and moves her from country to country in a coffin to escape detection, then sets up shop in an eerie abandoned castle in Russia.

Quite a few loose ends get tied up with this one: Becca's weird time travel, what's really behind Galina Krause's obsession with the Astrolabe, what is the apocalyptic event she may unleash on the world. Criminals chase the kids and one adult through major cities in Europe and beyond, wielding guns and a crossbow. Now here was a truly outstanding reading experience.

I think this author knows his audience, and while I'm not wowed at this point anymore, I still think the concept is good and there's loads of action and fun that kids would enjoy. Galina has been getting crazier about the relics and seems to have dropped of the face of the Earth.
